Meet Susan, Calvin and Peter! A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Susan was once my supervisor when I used to make DVD’s. But as everyone moves on, we also stay in touch. That was one of the things I really enjoyed about my time at Scope Seven was the friends I made and the lasting relationships for years to come. When Susan asked me to take photos of her family, I couldn’t have been happier.
With a tight schedules and busy lives, the only time we could get together for our session was in the middle of the day. And as many of you know, shooting at noon is a tough situation as the lighting can be very harsh and bright. Shadows fill the face, backlit hot spots become your background, and of course it’s hot. But with all photo sessions, you make the best of it, find the best spots, and have a good time. Not only did we accomplish just that, we also went out to the CSU Fullerton Arboretum and took some photos there as well. Now I’d never been to this jungle style gardens, but it was truly amazing. It had trees of all types, wide open spaces, ponds, a few buildings, and best of all, it was free and not very crowded. I’m definitely going to head back there for an engagement session one of these days.
As we continued our 2 hour session, Calvin rarely looked directly at me. The times I could get him to look at me, he rarely smiled. But kids sometimes have a very defined look about them that sometimes is just as intrigueing as a laugh or a smile. Their stare and seriousness sometimes make the best photos in a sort of contradictory style fashion. Kids can’t always be laughing and playing all the time, as we all know they also get angry, cry, and even fall down and get hurt. So I got a good variety of everything, but next time I’m bringing more toys. On top of the family photos, we also got a few of Susan and Peter’s newest addition, ready to debut this October. Congratulations again on the new King, as I’m sure he’ll be just as cute as Calvin and hopefully half as energetic. 🙂 Thanks again for everything and hope to catch up with you guys again soon.
