“Only you can prevent forest fires,” says the famous cartoon icon Smokey the Bear. Well he must have skipped coming to California as fires rage around the Los Angeles area in Sylmar, Brea Canyon, Corona, and a few other cities. As I attended my Journalism Conference, smoke filled the campus in Fullerton with ash and unbreathable air, as the sun went red and the air went brown, and we were miles away. The residents in the hills were not so lucky, with many apartment complexes going up in flames. Here are just a few photos from my view and my hopes and prayers go out to all the families affected by this horrible inferno.
